3rd Annual Pearl S. Buck International Writer’s Workshop June 24-26, 2010 at Pearl S. Buck Birthplace

The 3rd Annual Pearl S. Buck International Writer’s Workshop is scheduled to be held at her home place June 24-26, 2010 with keynote speaker Dr. Peter Conn, Vartan Gregorian Chair in English at the University of Pennsylvania. Other speakers include Dr. Chris Green with the department t of English at Marshall University and Dr. Laura Bently, writer-in-residence, Marshall University. The schedule for the workshop begins:

Thursday, June 24

1-4 p.m. Tour of Pearl S. Buck Birthplace Museum
6-8 p.m. Meet the Writers Receptions- Includes participants in the workshop and members of Pearl S. Buck Birthplace Foundation and Invited Media

At leisure to attend an evening concert by Allegheny Echoes Students at the Pocahontas County Opera House in Marlinton

Friday, June 25

8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast-Cliffside
9 a.m. Dr. Chris Green
11 a.m. Dr. Laura Bentley
12 Noon Lunch served by the PSB Foundation
2 p.m. Dr. Peter Conn
4 p.m. Break and Workshop Wrap-up
5-7 p.m. Little Levels Heritage Fair Events
Old Fashioned Pork Barbeque (Ticket Included)
Music by Trista Rexroad and the Backroads Band (HES Cafeteria and Lawn
Twilight Firemen’s Parade and Old Fashioned Square Dance- HVFD

Saturday,June 26

Enjoy Arts & Crafts, Quilt Show, Local Music, Parade, Old Time Exhibits and more at the Little Levels Heritage Fair and Pearl S. Buck Birthplace grounds.

4 p.m. Pearl S. Buck Birthday Celebration and Writers Fair-Sydenstricker House with keynote speaker Dr. Peter Conn, with Dr. Laura Bentley and Dr. Chris Green. Enjoy music, birthday cake and punch for all.
5 p.m. Stay over and enjoy Old fashioned chicken barbeque by the Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church at Hillsboro Elementary Cafeteria ($8.00 at the door)

The cost of the workshop is $75.00 for each participant and includes all meals, tours and entertainment listed above and workshop tote bags, note pads, and pens. A maximum of 20 participants will be registered. Each participant may contact the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau for additional lodging available in the area. If you wish to include a spouse or friend for the Thursday evening reception, the cost will be an additional $10.00.
