The Pretty Penny Opens in Hillsboro Historical Store

Thursday January 14, 2010

Looking for a great place to eat while visiting Hillsboro? The Pretty Penny, which opened on October 28, 2009, has a lot to offer. Housed in the historical W.D. Moore Store building, owner Blair Sharp Campbell has put a new face on an old building. With new paint and some special touches, she has made the old building cozy and welcoming. The store building was originally built in 1914 and housed the Marshall Isabell store. It was last operated as a general store in the ‘80’s and was converted to a restaurant and has changed hands several times.

Offering lunch and dinner, the café opens at 10:30am Wednesday through Sunday. The menu offers appetizers, sandwiches and dinner items. In addition, Blair makes a variety of soups and keeps BBQ and pasta on hand. On Sunday, brunch items, such as breakfast burritos, are offered. Take out is offered if you wish to get it to go. On any given Friday evening, local bluegrass pickers (Richard Hefner, Doug Scott and Allen Duchess, just to name a few) can be spotted there entertaining patrons with their own brand of mountain music.

In addition to music and food, the Pretty Penny is a WiFi spot and local crafters display their goods for sale. These include Allison Burns Jewelry, Ell-N-Dell Designers (purses and bags), photography by Jennie Terman, and brooms by Brenwood Forge and Broom.

If you or your group is looking for a great place to meet, the Pretty Penny is available for no extra charge. A community bulletin board displays local happenings and business advertisements.

Blair has also discussed holding a few special events in the future. One idea would be to have a “Dinner and a Movie night.” A special day is also being planned for Valentine’s day, February 14th.

So, whether you’re visiting the area or are a local resident, the Pretty Penny has much to offer and enjoy. You can see the complete menu to print or download at www.prettypennyfood.com. If you are Facebook user, the Pretty Penny has a great page.
